Rosso di Montalcino "Banditella" DOC - organic
The Rosso di Montalcino “Banditella” from Col d'Orcia is the younger brother of the great Brunello — more approachable in the drinking window, but with the same Sangiovese foundation from one of the most prestigious sites in central Italy.
Col d'Orcia is one of the most historic estates in Montalcino: The Franceschi family purchased the property in 1890, and in 1933 they presented their Brunello wines at one of Italy's first wine fairs in Siena. Today, Count Francesco Marone Cinzano manages the estate biodynamically—making Col d'Orcia the largest organic winery in Tuscany, with 108 hectares of Brunello-classified vineyards.
In the glass, the "Banditella" displays ripe blackcurrant, delicate vanilla, and a hint of roasted aromas. On the palate, it is powerful and dense, with supple tannins and a warmth that never becomes heavy. The finish is long and spicy, with a subtle oak note lingering until the very end.
Ready to drink now, with potential until 2028. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Pairs well with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, venison ragù or aged Pecorino Toscano.
