Rosso di Montalcino "Banditella" DOC - organic

The Rosso di Montalcino “Banditella" from Col d'Orcia is the more accessible expression of the same Sangiovese foundation from which the estate's great Brunello is also created — powerful, but without the heaviness of some Tuscan red wines.

Col d'Orcia is one of the most historic addresses in Montalcino: the Franceschi family acquired the estate in 1890, and in 1933 they presented their Brunelli at one of Italy's first wine fairs in Siena. Today, Count Francesco Marone Cinzano manages the estate biodynamically — Col d'Orcia is thus considered the largest organic winery in Tuscany, with 108 hectares of Brunello-classified vineyards on hilly limestone-clay soil south of Montalcino.

In the glass, the “Banditella" shows ripe blackcurrant, a hint of violet, and fine spice. On the palate, it feels dense and warm, with supple tannin and an acidity structure that gives the wine contour without becoming too edgy. The finish is long and spicy.

Best served at 16–18 °C. Pairs with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, game ragù, or aged Pecorino Toscano — a braised dish with lentils or Borlotti beans is also a good choice.
