Paulinshofberg Riesling GG

The Paulinshofberg vineyard lies upstream from the Brauneberg – a historic site that had been forgotten for decades and was reclassified as a Grosses Lage (Grand Cru) by the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates) in 2019. Since then, it has been showing what it is capable of.

Fritz Haag cultivates the south-southeast facing steep slopes, whose soil differs from that of the neighboring Juffer: In addition to weathered blue and grey Devonian slate, there is loamy clay slate – this gives the wine a different texture, more body, an earthy depth.

In the glass, bright, clear fruit is revealed: stone fruit, a hint of citrus peel, and dark berries in the background. The nose opens with flint and fresh herbs, followed on the palate by floral notes and a spicy, earthy minerality that carries the wine. The finish is long, with a delicate salinity and an elegance that knows no rush.
