Cuarenta y Tres – these three words represent Spain's best-selling liqueur. Although the name might seem unusual at first, it's quite fitting, as the liqueur is actually made from 43 different ingredients. Inspired by the golden-aromatic liqueur Mirabilis, considered an elixir of life by the ancient Romans, the Spanish Zamora family launched Licor 43 in 1946, and it's still produced today according to a closely guarded secret recipe. The sweet liqueur, flavored with herbs, fruits, and spices, especially vanilla, quickly gained popularity and became a global success in the 1960s thanks to the booming tourism industry. It's no wonder, then, that it's a favorite for many.
