Königin Victoriaberg Riesling Grosses Gewächs GG

The Königin Victoriaberg has carried its name since 1850 – when Queen Victoria visited Hochheim in 1845, she was led into this vineyard, and the English royal court had it named in honor of the monarch from then on. To this day, wine from this site ends up on royal tables.

Behind the wine is the Joachim Flick winery in Wicker, the western gateway to the Rheingau, located in a street mill over 700 years old and in family hands since 1650 – nine generations. The vines stand in the so-called Mainz Basin, a former primeval sea whose sediments provide exceptionally calcareous soils. These soils are the reason for the distinct minerality and the longevity of the wines. Reiner Flick sources new wooden barrels from local Taunus oak, crafted in traditional craftsmanship.

In the glass, the Riesling shows lively citrus aromas – lemon zest, grapefruit – supplemented by herbal spicy notes and a juicy, slightly tropical fruit on the palate. The acidity is present and carries the wine, the finish long and characterized by fine minerality.

As a Grosses Gewächs, this wine has aging potential. Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Pairs well with turbot with beurre blanc, fried zander, or a ripe Comté.
