Hochheim Königin Victoriaberg Riesling VDP1st site

The Königin Victoriaberg is one of the most famous single vineyards in the Rheingau – and the story behind it is no marketing invention: when Queen Victoria visited Hochheim in 1845, she was led into this vineyard. From 1850, it bore her name, and to this day, wine from this site ends up on the table of the English royal court.

The Joachim Flick winery in Wicker has been operating viticulture since 1650 – nine generations, housed in a street mill over 700 years old. The 20 hectares of Riesling vines stretch from Wicker to Lorch, taking root in the calcareous soil of the former Mainz Basin sea. This limestone soil is no coincidence: it gives the wines the characteristic minerality and a longevity that distinguishes Rheingau Riesling from other German white wines.

In the glass, the Riesling shows aromas of pear, apricot, and white peach, supplemented by spicy, stony notes. The palate is tautly structured, the acidity precise – typical for limestone-influenced sites. The finish remains long and mineral. Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Pairs with zander on beurre blanc, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, or mild goat cheese.
