Hillside Vineyard Grenache

A Grenache that shows what dry heat and old vines from the Barossa Valley can achieve: opulent, yet not heavy, with a lavender note that elegantly frames the dark berry fruit.

Torbreck Vintners has been working in the Barossa Valley since 1994, following the example of the Southern Rhône—no coincidence, as the region has been cultivating Grenache, Shiraz, and Mourvèdre since 1840. The Hillside Vineyard in the Lyndoch sub-region is one of the historic sites that Pete Kight and chief winemaker Ian Hongell have specifically selected for their single-vineyard wines. Unirrigated vines, which have to dig deep into the rock, produce more concentrated grapes—and you can taste the difference.

Blackberry and dark plum in the glass, along with a distinct lavender note and a hint of herbs. The tannins are ripe and well-integrated, the body full-bodied, the finish warm and lingering. No harsh edges, but a clear structure.

Best served at 16–18 °C . Pairs well with braised lamb rump, grilled merguez sausage, or a mature Manchego cheese. To open up the wine slightly, decant it 30 minutes before serving.
