Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5°

Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5°
The Valbuena 5° is the big brother of the Único — more approachable in its youth, but with the same unmistakable Ribera character: dense dark fruit, depth and a finish that lingers.
Vega Sicilia lies in the heart of the Ribera del Duero , at an altitude of approximately 750 meters between Valladolid and Aranda de Duero. Founded in 1864, the winery remains one of Spain's most prestigious estates. The Valbuena 5° is made from Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) with small amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon—and, as the name suggests, matures for at least five years in the cellar: in oak barrels of various sizes and origins, as well as in the bottle.
In the glass, it displays a deep purple-red color. The nose offers blackcurrant, plum, and cedarwood, along with a balsamic undertone and a hint of toasted oak. On the palate, it is powerful and concentrated, with velvety tannins that betray its long aging in oak barrels. The acidity balances the weight—the finish is long, spicy, and slightly mineral. 94 points Wine Advocate (2013 vintage).
Serving temperature 17–18 °C. Drinking window open until 2032+. Pairs well with suckling pig, rack of lamb with rosemary jus or aged Manchego cheese.
