Kaapzicht The 1947 Chenin Blanc

The 1947 Chenin Blanc from Kaapzicht winery is a cult wine from the Cape. The vines for this wine were first planted in 1947 on oak leaf soils. The hand-harvested grapes are spontaneously fermented in amphorae and wooden barrels, using methods that have been employed for centuries. The wine then matures in 500-liter oak barrels for approximately 10 months before bottling. This wine is incredibly stable and can be aged for up to 25 years. The low yields from very old bush vines contribute to a high degree of complexity and a harmonious balance of minerality and acidity. Tim Atkin Report 2023: 95 points for the 2022 vintage.

Kaapzicht Estate

Kaapzicht was first mentioned in 1712 as "Friesland" and came into the possession of the Steytler family in 1946. The name was chosen because of the magnificent views of Cape Town and Table Mountain from the vineyard slopes. Kaapzicht Estate is a typical family business where all family members work together: A few years ago, Danie Steytler, a passionate, hardworking, and creative winemaker, followed in his father Daan's footsteps. His mother, Yngvild, is responsible for the worldwide export markets. The wines grown and bottled on the estate have been offered under the Kaapzicht label since 1984.
