Ayler Kupp "Kern" Riesling off-dry Barrel 9

From the oldest parcels of the Ayler Kupp vineyard – vines rooted in the Saar slate since the 1950s. Barrel 9 is a single-barrel bottling by Peter Lauer: unfiltered, full of character, with the typical interplay between fruit and minerality.

The Ayler Kupp vineyard lies on the Saar River, where the climate is harsher than on the Moselle. During the day, the slate cliffs store the heat, while at night cool air rises the slope – a natural temperature drop that sharpens the aromas and preserves the acidity. Peter Lauer has cultivated the vineyard for generations, carefully vinifying according to parcel and barrel, thus clearly bringing the differences of the terroir to the glass.

On the nose, passion fruit and gooseberry, underpinned by a hint of slate. On the palate, the Riesling displays a juicy, smooth texture – the residual sweetness is not heavy, but rather enhances the lively acidity and creates a long, fresh finish with a slightly salty-mineral note.
