Nicolas Jay Pinot Noir Bishop Creek

Bishop Creek is Nicolas Jay's entry into the Willamette Valley world – and already shows what the winery stands for: Pinot Noir with roots, not with makeup.

Behind Nicolas Jay are the French-American duo Jean-Nicolas Méo (Méo-Camuzet, Vosne-Romanée) and Jay Boberg. Since 2013, they have been working in Oregon with biodynamically farmed plots in the Willamette Valley. Bishop Creek sources its grapes from several vineyards in the region and is vinified in the style of the Côte de Nuits: restrained use of oak, with a focus on fruit and texture.

In the glass, it shines a clear ruby red. The nose reveals sour cherry, dried cranberry, and red plum, underpinned by forest floor and a hint of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is lean and lively – the tannins are firm yet fine-grained, and the acidity gives the wine drive and freshness. The finish is spicy, with an earthy, slightly mineral aftertaste.
