Muscat Blanc

Muscat Blanc, also known as Gelber Muskateller in Germany, is one of the oldest and most noble grape varieties in the world. Its origin probably lies in ancient Greece, from where the Romans spread it throughout Europe. What makes it so special is its uniquely intense fragrance – an enchanting bouquet of nutmeg, rose petals, orange blossoms and fresh vineyard peaches. On the palate, it reveals a lively but moderate acidity and an elegant texture. Its versatility is impressive: In Piedmont it becomes the famous, sweet Moscato d'Asti with fine bubbles, while in Alsace it delights as a dry, spicy wine. In southern France, it matures into lusciously sweet dessert wines such as Muscat de Rivesaltes with notes of honey and candied fruit. Whether you enjoy it as an aperitif, with Asian dishes or fruity desserts – Muscat Blanc is always a temptation for the senses.

Herkunft & Charakter

Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains gilt als eine der ältesten Rebsorten überhaupt und ist in Frankreich vor allem im Elsass und in Languedoc-Roussillon zu Hause. Im Elsass wird sie klassisch trocken ausgebaut: leicht, duftbetont, mit Aromen von frischer Weintraube, Orangenblüte und einem Hauch weißem Pfeffer. Im Süden, etwa als Muscat de Rivesaltes, entsteht ein Vin Doux Naturel – durch Zugabe von Weinbrand gestoppt, mit deutlicher Restsüße, Aromen von Aprikose, Honig und getrockneter Zitrusschale. Beiden Stilen gemeinsam ist die unverwechselbare Sortentypizität: Muscat riecht und schmeckt wie Muscat – direkt, transparent, ohne Umwege.
