When Mario Zelt decided to take over the winery in the mid-1990s, he knew he wanted to focus exclusively on winemaking. He aimed to raise the quality level and steer the winery in a new, positive direction. To achieve this, he first cleared old vineyards and replaced them with other grape varieties, primarily classic local varieties but also some international ones. During his two-year winemaking apprenticeship and subsequent studies in oenology, Mario Zelt completed internships at renowned wineries in France, Austria, and South Africa. These experiences further motivated him to raise the quality level even higher.
