Viu Manent

The name Viu Manent is steeped in the history and tradition of winemaking in Chile. As early as 1935, Don Miguel Viu Garcia and his two sons founded the "Bodegas Viu" winery in Santiago, Chile. They bottled wine and sold it for the local market under their own label, "Vinos Viu." Bodegas Viu's own wine production began in 1966 with the purchase of the "Hacienda San Carlos de Cunaco" estate, an old winery with vineyards dating back to the 19th century. When José Miguel Viu took over management of the winery in the late 1980s, investments were immediately made in new technology and modern vineyard management, and two more vineyards were acquired. Today, Viu Manent produces its wines exclusively from its own three vineyards: San Carlos, La Capilla Estate, and El Olivar, all located in the Colchagua Valley DO region. A total of 200 hectares are currently in production, with another 150 hectares newly planted and expected to yield their first harvest in 2005. The unique climatic conditions between the Pacific Ocean and the foothills of the Andes make it possible to cultivate the vineyards organically.
