Chateau Marquis d'Alesme

In 2006, the Zuger family sold Château Marquis d'Alesme Becker to the Perrodo family for €25 million. For the new owner, Hubert Perrodo, this was a logical step, as he already owned another Margaux vineyard, Château Labegorce. Sadly, Hubert Perrodo died in a skiing accident shortly after the purchase. The estate is currently managed by his daughter, Nathalie Perrodo. The 15-hectare vineyard of Château Marquis d'Alesme is divided into three unique terroirs and soil types. One plot next to the château, consisting of gravel and pebble soil with some clay, is planted with 100% Merlot. A parcel with silica and gravel near the D2 road is planted with 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. This shows a significant increase in the amount of Cabernet Sauvignon and new plantings of Cabernet Franc. The third part of the vineyard consists mainly of young vines, from which the second wine, Marquise d'Alesme, is produced. On average, the vines are kept at an age of 40 years. The plantings have a density of 10,000 vines per hectare. Today, Château Marquis d'Alesme focuses on sustainable practices, self-sufficiency, and vineyard management techniques.
