Château Fonplégade
The name of Château Fonplégade (literally "Fountain of Abundance") derives from the historic 13th-century stone fountain that graces the estate's vineyard. For centuries, it quenched the thirst of passing pilgrims and nourished the estate's vines even in the driest years. Vines have thrived in this exceptional location, perched atop the limestone plateau that is home to some of Saint-Émilion's finest vineyards, since the late 15th century. In 1852, the legendary wine merchant Jean-Pierre Beylot acquired the property and built the elegant château that still stands on the grounds today. Enchanted by the terroir, history and splendor of the estate with its ancient Roman roads and graceful vines, Denise and Stephen Adams acquired Château Fonplégade in 2004 and spent 17 years tirelessly revitalizing the vineyards, renovating the cellar and lovingly restoring the Château.
