The wines of La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou come from the vineyards of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. This exceptional Médoc terroir lies between the Gironde River to the east, and the central and western parts of the Saint-Julien appellation. The estate owes its name to its "beautiful pebbles" (French: "beaux cailloux"), which, due to their high quartz content, create nutrient-poor soils. It is precisely this "agrological" deficiency that makes the terroir so interesting for the production of fine wines. In the east, the plots are situated along the rolling hills of the Médoc directly above the estuary, while those in the epicenter benefit from a microclimate nourished by the small stream La Mouline, which meanders from west to east through the heart of the appellation before disappearing into the Gironde.

The vines of Ducru-Beaucaillou grow on quartz-rich, pebbly soils that leave the vines with few nutrients—and this is precisely what shapes the depth and precision of the wines. Between the Gironde estuary and the La Mouline stream, classic Saint-Julien-Médoc wines with the typical structure of the left bank are produced here.
