sassicaia-bolgheri-superiore-doc
Sassicaia Bolgheri Superiore DOC
The story of Sassicaia begins during World War II, when the war led to a shortage of French red wine. Marchese Mario Incesia planted the first of what were then typically French grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, in Bolgheri, about 10 kilometers from the coast. The wine was named after the many stones found in the vineyard, and thus "sassi" (Italian for "stone") became Sassicaia. Sassicaia displays an intense ruby red color. Its berry aromas are reminiscent of cherries and other dark berries, with hints of tobacco, mint, and mineral notes. It is an exceptionally elegant wine, very dense and full-bodied, yet perfectly balanced. The fine tannins and subtle minerality further enhance its appeal. This is a wine that will benefit from aging.
