{"product_id":"osborne-1-years-old-tawny-port-doc","title":"Osborne 10 Years Old Tawny Port DOC","description":"The port city of Porto, situated at the mouth of the Douro River, gave its name to what is arguably the world's most famous wine. From there, this wine, highly prized in England since the mid-17th century, is shipped. Its growing region lies about 100 kilometers upstream in the upper Douro Valley. On the steep slopes, 80 different grape varieties thrive on heat-retaining slate soils, up to 40 of which are permitted for port wine production. While the traditional foot-treading of the harvested grapes can still be found today, modern cellar technology usually ensures gentle pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation, which is stopped after two to three days by the addition of wine distillate. The young wine is stored at the vineyards over the winter, and in the spring it is transported downstream to Vila Nova de Gaia, opposite Porto, where Osborne, like all the famous port wine houses, has its \"lodges.\" There, the wine matures for at least 10 years in wooden casks before bottling. Like most port wines, this wine is a blend of wines from different vineyards and vintages to ensure consistent quality year after year. The Port Wine Institute's seal of approval on each bottle guarantees the age of Osborne 10 Years Old Tawny Port, which, thanks to its long aging in casks, has acquired a lighter, slightly golden-brown hue and exhibits all the characteristics of an old, mature Tawny Port (tawny means tan-colored). It is an elegant, versatile wine, perfect as an aperitif, with cheese, or with dessert.
