Paul Hobbs Winery
Paul Hobbs grew up on a farm in New York State, near Lake Ontario. One of eleven children, he dreamed of great things – during his teenage years in the 1960s, when space exploration became a major topic in the US, he wanted to be an astronaut. But a routine medical check-up brought his dreams to an abrupt end, and his slight visual impairment brought him back down to earth. As a third-generation farmer, he had learned planting and harvesting on the family farm. While other children enjoyed sports, he had to help out at home. The last thing he ever imagined was becoming a farmer himself! After earning his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, he eventually found his way to viticulture and in 1978 enrolled at the prestigious UC Davis in California for a Master's degree in Viticulture and Enology. There, he made connections that would decisively influence the direction of his professional career. During his studies, he completed an internship with Robert Mondavi in Napa Valley, where he dedicated considerable time to researching aging in wood, maceration times, and microvinification. A year later, he was hired by Mondavi and became part of the founding team of Opus One. At that time, he became familiar with the cultural differences between the French and American approaches – it was a challenging period!
Paul Hobbs' robust Pinot Noir Russian River Valley shimmers a deep, bright red in the glass. On the nose, this red wine reveals a rich array of aromas, including lavender, jasmine, lilies, violets, and blackcurrants. As if that weren't impressive enough, aging in small oak barrels adds further nuances such as oriental spices, gingerbread spice, and cocoa bean. The texture of this powerful red wine is wonderfully silky on the palate. Thanks to its moderate acidity, the Pinot Noir Russian River Valley offers a velvety mouthfeel without sacrificing freshness. The finish of this exceptionally age-worthy red wine from California is impressively long, with renewed hints of blueberry and mulberry. 97 Parker Points
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0896/3509/4864/files/vinoscout_paul_hobbs_pinot_noir_russian_river_valley.webp?v=1771237585
