Luce della Vite
Tenuta Luce della Vite lies southwest of the town of Montalcino and comprises 192 hectares of land, 77 of which are planted with vines. A large portion of the vineyards were established in 1977, but most of the new plantings took place from 1997 onwards, with an average vine density of 6,100 vines per hectare. The estate is situated at an altitude of 350 to 420 meters above sea level and is among the highest in the area. In the higher elevations, the well-drained, low-organic Galestro soil provides ideal conditions for growing Sangiovese. In the lower elevations, the soil is both clayey and sandy, making it ideal for Merlot. The long, hot, and sunny summers in this part of Tuscany, along with the southern exposure of the vineyards, allow for slow and complete grape ripening, resulting in highly concentrated and powerful wines. The vineyards are cultivated according to the principles of sustainable agriculture: predominantly organic technologies are used to maintain healthy vines. The average yield is kept very low (approximately 30 hectoliters of wine per hectare) to emphasize the character of the grape varieties and capture the essence of the terroir. Thinning the berries and defoliating the vines are standard practice.

Lucente is the entry point into the world of Luce della Vite – and shows how much character a Tuscan red wine can already have at this level.

The winery was founded in 1995 through the collaboration of Marchese Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi – two families who combined their respective winemaking traditions in Tuscany.
