Perhaps to emphasize their already distinctive whisky, the owners soon changed the name to Dalwhinnie when production began in 1898. This means \u0026quot;Plain of Meetings\u0026quot; in Gaelic, a reference to its location at the crossroads of old, well-traveled roads between two mountain ranges. Although the site is beautiful and ancient, it has its drawbacks: A fire in 1934 caused a four-year closure.
