Casa Rojo
"Too many cooks spoil the broth"... but not in this case! On the contrary: The Spanish winery CASA ROJO, based near Murcia, benefits greatly from the fact that creative minds from diverse fields have come together and put their thinking caps on. The twelve wine enthusiasts call themselves "wine gurus." Among them are oenologists, winemakers, designers, and sales professionals who are forging new paths together: From six different DOs in Spain, they create authentic varietal wines of good, but also quite distinct, quality. These are true wine types with their own character, each typical of its origin. Every single wine is an expression of the terroir and the individual varietal typicity. The wines are produced and bottled at the respective vineyards, and the grapes are collected and stored collectively in Murcia. In contrast to Spain's powerful industrial wineries, CASA ROJO sees itself as a small enterprise. Grape cultivation, oenology, and design are paramount. Wine is viewed as a personality and a vehicle for conveying joy and creativity. CASA ROJO: “Amor, pasión y respeto por el vino, su cultura y su origen.” (Love, passion and respect for wine and its culture.) There is absolute attention to detail, both in content and presentation.
The Granacha grapes for the Casa Rojo Enemigo Mio grow at the foot of the Sierra de La Pila in the Murcia region, not far from the Costa Blanca in southern Spain. The wild boar that likes to roam through the vineyards in late summer, feasting on the sweet grapes, is called Jabali in the local dialect. The owners of Casa Rojo couldn't resist including the wild boar on the label, as it claims a significant portion of the harvest. Matured in large 1,100-liter oak barrels, this red wine impresses with its juiciness and delightful drinkability. The aroma profile ranges from sour cherries and balsamic notes to hints of cocoa and vanilla.
MachoMan Monastrell is a pure reflection of its terroir, from its very origins, with aromas of red fruits (plum, cherry), rosemary, thyme, balsamic vinegar, and menthol. Fresh, silky, long, elegant, and unique. The grapes come from 13 Monastrell vineyards in La Raja (where the winery is located), nestled between the El Carche and La Pila mountain ranges. The vines are between 20 and 70 years old, within the DO Jumilla wine region of southern Spain. The poor, shallow, and calcareous soils, combined with the area's extremely dry climate, put considerable strain on the vines, resulting in a very high-quality fruit. Monastrell from this region is traditionally trained in a 3x2 or 3x3 trellis system with calyx pruning. The grapes are hand-harvested in small 15 kg crates during the second and third weeks of September, at their optimal ripeness. Harvesting takes place in the first hours of the day, ensuring the grapes arrive at the winery at a temperature of approximately 15°C. The grapes undergo two sorting stages before being transferred to the cellars. Fermentation occurs in 7,000-liter truncated cone-shaped tanks (the inverted shape is thinner, allowing for gentler and less aggressive pressing) at a controlled temperature of 28°C. The wine is then aged in new French oak barrels, 240 and 450 liters, from four cooperatives (Seguin Moreau, ANA, Saint Martin, and Saury). MachoMan also ages in 800-liter Roman clay amphorae.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0896/3509/4864/files/vinoscout_machoman_monastrell_mmm_2.webp?v=1771360128
